PEDALLING INTO THE UNKNOWN
The Hidden Human and Insurance Costs of the UK’s eBike Boom
eBikes are transforming the way we move through cities as fast, convenient, and increasingly popular modes of transport. But behind the headlines and the green credentials lies a far more complex picture.
At Angelica Solutions, we know that risk doesn’t disappear, it evolves. As eBike usage increases across the UK, so too do the unintended consequences. Our latest white paper explores the data behind the headlines: helmet usage, rider behaviour, insurance claims, regulatory blind spots, and the human cost of a poorly understood transport revolution.

NEW ANALYSIS REVEALS COLLISIONS 80% MORE LIKELY TO BE FATAL IN DARKNESS
Angelica Solutions analysed the Department for Transport’s road collision data and found that a collision is much more likely to result in a fatality if it occurs in the dark.
During daylight hours, 20% of injury-causing road collisions result in at least one serious injury and 1.2% result in a fatality but the proportion of fatalities rises to 2.1% in the dark, an increase of around 80% despite traffic volumes typically being much lower in the hours of darkness.

COLLISION RISK AROUND AIRPORTS IN ENGLAND AND WALES IS TWICE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE
Heathrow Airport ranks number 1 in road collision hot spots
Our latest analysis of government road collision data shows that the roads around major airports in England and Wales are twice as risky compared to the national average.
The data shows that every year there are approximately 1.7 injury-causing collisions per 1,000 people; however, those living in proximity to a major airport are twice as likely to find themselves involved in such a collision.
